The Challenge
Analysing and presenting business data—critical decision support skills—are sadly lacking. In this so-called information age, we are overwhelmed by data, not because there is too much, but because we don't know how to tame it. Computers speed the process of information handling, but they don't tell us what the information means or how to communicate its meaning to decision makers. These skills are not intuitive; they rely on principles and practices that, though simple, must be learned.
Business dashboards are one of the key instruments to present critical information at a glance. Dashboards engage the power of visual perception to communicate a dense collection of management information and help decision makers to gain comprehensive insight into the performance of their organisation.
This workshop will provide practical, hands on tips on how to improve business reports and charts. A particular focus will be on the principles of professional dashboard design and effective ways to implement them in Excel and the web.

Workshop character
All our seminar offerings differ substantially from typical one to many instructor led courses: they are held as workshops where interaction and the individual challenges of the attendees are an integral part of the learning.
Participants are encouraged to submit anonymised versions of their management communications (presentations, reports, charts, etc.) and performance management process templates (spreadsheets). Those will then be used as hands-on examples for applying the taught principles or can be discussed in one on one sessions with the presenters.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own laptops to the course to develop test applications that suit their environment. For this seminar the only software requirement is a working version of Excel 2000/2003 or 2007.
